Legislation has been passed that gives Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) the authority to regulate the growing, processing, handling and brokering of hemp in Nebraska. This means that insurance agents are soon going to be faced with an emerging market, which will have very limited outlets for the placement of insurance. 

IIAN has collaborated with other Big "I" associations from around the country to offer our members an exclusive cannabis program, which allows them the ability to insure a variety of businesses and operations tied into the cannabis industry. This provides our members a competitive advantage in the simple fact they will have an option for these insureds when most insurance carriers will not provide coverage for entities involved with the growing, processing, or handling of cannabis-related products.

Instructor Biography:

Matt Child is the CEO of Utah Independent Agents, the insurance trade association in the state of Utah. As CEO, Matt is responsible for legislative advocacy, market access, and industry communications across the state. Matt has occupied many positions in over 30 years in insurance and has managed 11 different states across the country. His experience includes personal lines, commercial, aviation, education, risk analysis, rate determination, business consulting, and agency evaluation. Matt holds a BA in Business Administration and Marketing from Weber State University and has his CIC from the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research. He currently resides in St George, UT with his wife and son where they spend much of their time outdoors. He enjoys mountain biking and has ridden trails in 47 different states.

Matt received his Certified Insurance Counselors certification in 2021, and graduated with a Bachelor in Marketing and Business Administration from Weber State University in 2000.

This program will provide one hour of P&C CE credit for Nebraska & Iowa Licensees (pending approvals).
