This course addresses exposures created by clients’ business activities, their ownership or use of recreational vehicles and watercraft, as well as the need for additional coverage through Personal Umbrella Liability and Catastrophe Coverage. Personal Lines clients may not be aware they are lacking the proper insurance coverage for these activities until after a loss occurs. Valuation of Property - Commercial & Personal (2 CE)

Wednesday 1:00pm - 3:00pm

Speakers
  • Angie Heavener - CIC, CPIA
Summary
Due to current economic conditions one of the biggest questions for a commercial property owner should be “do I have adequate coverage'? Of course, we know that is not always the first question. Usually for us it is “how much will this cost'? A recent study indicates that 47% of your clients are at least 27% underinsured. As you look at your book of business you may feel that almost 75% of your clients are more than 50% underinsured. Remember this also effects personal lines. The question continues to loom large due to increase in material costs, pandemic related supply chain issues, historic weather conditions and inflation. Prices continue to go up. So, what is an agent to do? This program will look at the problems and some suggestions to give to your clients.

Wednesday 3:00pm - 4:00pm

Speakers
  • Angie Heavener - CIC, CPIA
Summary
Why are there two such opposing coverage triggers available for the same type of coverage? What are the triggers? In general, insureds prefer (and maybe agents) occurrence type coverage over claims-made coverage due to its straightforward approach. But what are the pitfalls of occurrence? Of claims-made? And what are BERPs and SERPs? We will look at a few claims examples and discuss some of the considerations to consider when issuing a Claims-Made policy.

Scheduled vs. Farm Personal Property: How Do We Insure Their Stuff? (2 CE)

Thursday 8:30am - 10:30am

Speakers
  • Robin Souza CPCU, CIC, CRM, AFIS, AIS, AIC
Summary
Most everyone likes and/or accumulates “stuff”, and our farm/ranch insureds are no exception. Regardless of the size or type of operation, there will be “stuff” i.e. personal property. We’ll review the difference between Scheduled Personal Property and Farm Personal Property and coverage options, including Liability coverages where needed. We’ll discuss when personal property should be: 1) added to the farm/ranch policy, 2) insured elsewhere, or 3) self-insured.

New Exposures - New Restrictions - New Homeowners Policy (2 P/C CE)

Thursday 8:30am - 10:30am

Speakers
  • Angie Heavener - CIC, CPIA
Summary
The last time ISO made major changes to the Homeowners policy was 2011. There have been a number of reactive changes to the new hazards and exposures that have been created but there has not been a major rewrite in eleven years. We will look at a new HO 3 and the new Open Perils Tenants (HO 00 14) form. We will discuss some of the new broadening of coverages and some of the new restrictions. Be ready as your carriers adopt the new edition date. You will want to know what is coming.

Business Income: Production Ag vs. Farming (1 CE)

Thursday 10:30am - 11:30am

Speakers
  • Robin Souza CPCU, CIC, CRM, AFIS, AIS, AIC
Summary
For some (if not most) to be a farmer or rancher, it’s a lifestyle and not thought of as a traditional commercial business. Could this be why it’s easier to sell Business Income coverage to your local restaurant owner? Whether operating a farm/ranch or a restaurant, a loss could have the same result - loss of income. We’ll discuss the reasons for farmers/ranchers not purchasing Business Income coverages, what coverage options they may have, and is there a need to change the current insurance product.

Disclaimers, Do They Really Help? (1 CE)

Thursday 10:30am - 11:30am

Speakers
  • Angie Heavener - CIC, CPIA
Summary
It seems like today we can’t do anything without attaching some type of disclaimer to the policies we sell. Why? Sales 101 – Look what you can get for your money! Isn’t that what sales is? Maybe in some industries but not ours. Maybe ours was even that way at one time but today we have to communicate to the insured what the policy will do and more important what the policy will not do. Disclaimers have become a big part of our processes. • Don’t list coverages, exclusions or limitations without a disclaimer. • Don’t read contracts or leases without providing a disclaimer. • Don’t provide an annual questionnaire without a disclaimer. • Don’t provide a quote or present a proposal without a disclaimer. This is just a few of the issues agents and staff have to deal with daily. So, the big question is what should all of these disclaimers say. We will look at some suggestions.

Agritainment: When Does It Become An Issue For Insurance? (3 CE)

Thursday 12:30pm - 3:30pm

Speakers
  • Robin Souza CPCU, CIC, CRM, AFIS, AIS, AIC
Summary
How about a “farm-cation”? Some will trade in the beach or snow and spend their vacation or a Saturday at the local farm/ranch for some family fun. Agritainment is a growing revenue stream for farmers and ranchers, but what happens when they don’t let their insurance carrier know of the “small” side business? Will the standard farm policy respond? As the saying goes, “it’s all fun and games, until someone gets hurt”. We’ll review some examples of Agritainment, where there may be coverage gaps and how to protect the insured with coverage endorsements.

Interactive Ethics - Fun, Practical Solutions (3 Ethics CE)

Thursday 12:30pm - 3:30pm

Speakers
  • Angie Heavener - CIC, CPIA
Summary
Ethics has been defined over the years by philosophers, religions and various groups of people. The focus has always been on the standards and values to which people should adhere. Many of the issues we face are black and white but it is the gray areas that challenge us when we try to make the right decisions. Often these gray areas require a difficult choice between two right answers rather than a wrong and a right answer. Although the law helps to some degree sometimes it doesn’t go far enough to lead us to that ethical decision. Ethical situations and practical solutions will be the center focus in this program.
